Double Play Sounds is a recording, and music production studio located in the GTA. What started as a simple, single room, home recording/production studio, has grown to a multi room, multi track design that is capable of recording up to a 4 piece band, including vast mixing and mastering capabilities. Utilizing a strong knowledge background meshed with years of professional experience, as well as equipment that can be found in many world class recording rooms of today, we strive to provide the highest quality possible with affordability in mind.  

Double Play strives to be a production based studio, which features a traditional, industry standard method of recording and mixing.

Michael Mazurek owns and operates a GTA based home recording studio. With years of experience as a recording and mix engineer, music producer, and drummer, Michael brings a high level of skill and knowledge to all audio projects he works on. With a sincere passion for music driving his business, he’s committed to providing high-quality audio services at competitive prices.

Michael’s foray into the audio world began with a co-op program at the world-class Cherry Beach Sound in Toronto during high-school. There, while learning the business of running a professional recording studio, he gained practical knowledge of microphone setup, recording consoles and digital audio workstations. He further honed his skills as a recording and mix engineer while studying sound and music production at Recording Arts Canada, graduating with top marks. While enrolled, he took advantage of the recording facilities outside of class time. Michael is proficient at recording and mixing in Pro Tools and is comfortable engineering any genre of music. Continuously hungry to stay current in his field, Michael stays at the forefront of new techniques and technologies through reading, watching videos, and experimentation. He’s adept at recording, placing, and mixing ADR and sound effects for audio post-production projects. Michael also provides affordable mastering in conjunction with his other services. With 7 years of recording and production experience under his belt, the last 4 of which being his most prolific, Michael has finished building his own studio with top-of-the-line equipment found in professional studios.

Michael has developed a keen and discerning ear for great music from a daily analysis of different styles. That, coupled with an enthusiasm for music of all types, is what has made Michael an accomplished music producer. He strives to create a unique and complex sound all his own with his productions and yet, by blending modern and classic sounds alike, still maintains a sound easily accessible in the current cultural climate of popular music. Reason, Maschine, and analog synthesis are all used as part of his production process. He’s not afraid to incorporate live instrumentation and, as a drummer, is capable of contributing live percussion himself. While confident producing R&B, Rock, EDM, and Jazz, Michael prides himself on his extensive knowledge of Hip Hop and Dancehall, considering himself a “head” in regards to both. Being much more than a mere enthusiast of these two genres, his understanding of the music is heavily informed by childhood exposure, and subsequent experience of, Caribbean and West Indian culture through childhood and adolescent peers and family friends. A passion for these styles makes him a valuable choice for such productions, whether it be the classic genres themselves or current sub-genres thereof.

Michael is a seasoned musician, having played the drums avidly now for 10 years. He’s competent at many genres and has considerable experience in both live and studio atmospheres. His drumming service is easily coupled with his engineering or production work, further making him an asset in the home-studio environment. He’s also available for hire solely as a session or live drummer.

Whether he’s researching the gear and approach used on recordings he admires, or taking the odd drum lesson to keep his playing disciplined, it’s the living, breathing dedication to his craft displayed in these actions that makes Michael Mazurek an obvious choice for your next audio project. Not only does he bring a multitude of skills and a vast amount of knowledge to the table, but he’s also got the passion to propel your project to the next level.
